History and Story of Pope Saint Anacletus, the third Church Leader
Below in this page, we will explore on the third Catholic church leader, Pope Saint Anacletus who took over as Papacy after Pope Saint Linus.
Pope Anacletus or better still Cletus was the third Pope of the Roman Catholic Church after both Peter and Linus and history says he ruled from circa 79 to 92 AD.
Anacletus was born in Greece in Circa 25 AD, He lived in Athenae now known as Athen and was also called Kletos who also like Linus, knew and worked with Pope Saint Peter the first Pope.
It Should be known that Peter ordained Anacletus as a priest and soon became papacy from 80 to 92 AD, a total of years year in power while others claimed he ruled for 12 years as he took over Pope Saint Linus.
When Anacletus became pope, he use both the name Anacletus and the name Cletus and his reign is remembered for dividing Rome into 25 regions and giving control over each one to different bishops.
During his reign, he created parishes in Rome and assigned bishops and others to control those 25 districts that he had formed.
His mission for this regions establish churches and decide on the hierarchy used in each one and and for the bishops assigned to the regions, he made sure that they the experience that they needed.
Anacletus decreed that at least three current bishops must be on hand when a bishop took his orders and asked that they took their final orders in public as a way to help followers participate.
Pope Saint Cletus was also known for the changes he brought to the Churches and it’s Burial sites as he ordered the construction of a new church built to honor Saint Peter.
He also requested that the church reserve several spots in the nearby cemetery for martyrs who he believed deserves a good resting place after witnessing the atrocities done to Christians, so spots were prepared for future martyrs.
Like we know, history says that Saint Peter was buried under the Vatican Hill where current Pope Francis live and Pope Anacletus body was moved to Vatican Hill and placed near Pope Saint Peter after his death.
The Canon of Mass, also known as the Royal Canon, mentions Pope Anacletus and you should know that there’s a different, saint Cletus from Pope Saint Anacletus and they had separate feast date.
